What is NLP?
Neuro-linguistic programming ("NLP") is the theory of language, communication and thought, combined with an associated therapeutic method, whereby people can improve the way they interact with the world by using a number of principles and techniques.
These principles and techniques can be used to:
- learn and communicate more effectively, and
- ultimately to lead better, fuller, and richer lives.
The name was coined by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder to represent a connection between neurological processes ('neuro'), language ('linguistic') and behavioural patterns that have been learned through experience ('programming').
NLP was originally promoted by its founders, Bandler and Grinder, in the 1970s as an extraordinarily effective and rapid form of psychological therapy, capable of addressing the full range of problems, such as:
- Phobias;
- Depression;
- Habit disorder;
- Psychosomatic illnesses;
and
- Learning disorders.
It also espouses the potential for self-determination through overcoming learnt limitations and emphasized well-being and healthy functioning.
Included with the study of NLP is the concept of the 'science of excellence', derived from the study or 'modeling' how successful or outstanding people in different fields obtain their results. These skills can be learned by anyone to improve their effectiveness both personally and professionally, with life changing effect.
Clear Intentions founder, Debra Goldston, has personally benefitted enormously from using NLP over the past decade. Despite having overcome childhood learning difficulties and being unable to read until the age of nearly 11, Debra didn't come to fully understand the way she thinks and interprets the external world until studying NLP formally for herself. She thoroughly recommends this path to anyone interested in being the best they can be!
"But I’m not a coach or a therapist. Can I still attend?"
The short answer is YES! This weekend is for absolutely anyone interested in NLP and wanting to achieve their full potential in any area of their life. The flexibility of NLP means that it’s application is vast. For example, it can be used in:
- sport to help top athletes perform to their best,
- in business to improve sales,
- in relationships to improve the understanding between two people.
So all that you need to do now is decide where you may want to make improvements first!
