Assessment
Assessment will be by the following means:
One hour written paper (closed book);
One to one practical assessment with a member of the public and tutor;
Submission of 30 case studies
Completion of 12 written assignments
Students who are referred for any part of this assessment process are required to re sit the examination / assessment for only that module and not the whole course.
Supervision requirements during the training course
Most tutorial support will be given to students via email, but all students are entitled to request 2 face to face tutorials during the course in order to discuss specific issues. The tutor will set the time and date of these sessions and, whilst every attempt will be made to accommodate the needs of students who work or have dependent care issues, it will be the responsibility of the student to ensure they are able to attend tutorial meetings set at a reasonable time. Early in the course all students will be given the personal contact details for their Course Tutor for email support.
Supervision for students will be provided via a supervision group, which may include qualified therapists and former students. This will occur monthly, for one hour. The meeting will ensure that students fully understand that they are adequately supervised during the crucial early days of their practice, as is required by GHSC. Students will be issued with a programme of dates early in the course and attendance of at least 10 sessions is required to meet the course requirements. Again, while every attempt will be made to respond to the needs of students, we recognise that some students will find attending difficult and so. if they require, they may arrange instead a separate one-to-one supervision session. This may be either to confer on a difficult case, or because they cannot (for good reason) attend the group sessions. A separate charge will be made.
If a student would prefer to enter into a supervisions contract with a therapist who is suitably qualified and nearer to their home, then that will be acceptable as long as this external supervisor is prepared to provide reports and confirm that the student has attended the required number of sessions. The overall purpose of supervision is to discuss the procedures the student is using with their volunteer, and assess, on a regular, ongoing basis, the hypnotherapeutic skills of the student, and encourage the student to learn from this and develop the skills for reflective practice.
Supervision group sessions for qualified Clinical Hypnotherapists
We now run a small and friendly peer supervision group at which new and experienced Hypnotherapists can gain support and development in a supportive and welcoming environment. The group is open to all former students and other suitably qualified practitioners of Hypnotherapy (proof of qualification will be required) currently seeing clients on a fee paying basis. Current students of the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy will participate to enhance their development of skills and reflective practice. A set of guidelines for the group and a list of dates along with the cost per session, is available upon request. In order for this group to meet the requirements of most professional bodies , a contract with the College must be signed, which will stipulate the intended number of sessions per year and the type of supervision provided. The cost is per session and the College will provide copies of the contract and the attendance register to any professional body that requests it for the purposes of validating supervision arrangements.
