During January 2012, we will be undertaking a two week trip to Goa, South India, which includes the opportunity to also train for the Athena Spa Academy Ayurvedic Practitioner Diploma, accredited by CThA/ Embody.
Course content:
Early morning yoga and meditation session (optional), followed by a light breakfast on the beach;
Course delivery is each week day morning from approximately 9.00am-12.00 noon
3 hours of practical tuition in the following ayurvedic disciplines:
- Padabhyanga - Ayurvedic Foot Massage
- Abhyanga - Ayurvedic Full Body Massage
- Shirodhara and Shiroabhyanga - Ayurvedic Head Massage
- Pitzi-chilli
- Udvarthana (Cellulite & Tone)
- Pinda Sweda - Ayurvedic Poultice Massage
- Ayurvedic Marma Therapy
- Ayurvedic Pulse Diagnosis
- Ayurvedic Tongue Diagnosis
Further training is available upon individual request so just mail us if you need something else in addition to the standard package.
All tuition will be provided by authentic, fully qualified ayurvedic practitioners in a comfortable treatment space equipped with fans and / or air conditioning. Full notes will be provided by Athena Spa Academy prior to departure from the UK. Volunteers will be available for demonstration purposes so that students are able to fully engage with the learning process. However, students are also able to book their own treatments alongside their tuition sessions if they so choose and full details are available on request.
We recommend that all students undertake a full ayurvedic consultation upon arrival in Goa so that they can better relate their training to their own dosha typing. The cost of this is approximately £50 per person. Alternatively, this is available as a separate consultation prior to departure and through the College.
A light lunch and a chance to either enjoy time sunbathing or sightseeing follows in the afternoon before we gather again as a group in the evening for dinner and some optional further evening shopping. Local specialities include: precious and semi precious jewellery and pashminas, as well as exquisite wall hangings and breadspreads / handicrafts.
Tuition will take place 5 days per week, leaving plenty of additional time for relaxation and sightseeing further afield, as desired at weekends. We are able to arrange car and driver hire and organised tours to local attractions on request, taking away all of the hassle of arranging things for yourself while thousands of miles away from home.
Upon return to the UK, students will undertake a further assessment day at College premises in which they will provide a series of demonstration treatments, each assessed by a qualified Ayurvedic Practitioner. There is a charge of £75 for this. After successful completion of this stage, students will be issued with their UK Certification from which they can obtain insurance cover and therefore practice professionally in the UK. The pre requisite for this is a level 3 qualification in A& P as well as a Level 3 in Body Massage.
We believe that this blend of UK assessment and certification, combined with authentic practical training in the land where Ayurveda originated is unique and the best training currently available in this field.
The tour in fully escorted by College Principal, Debra Goldston who has been travelling extensively in India for over 20 years. We believe that her personal experience is invaluable in ensuring the smoothing running of our tours and overseas training. Highly experienced and fully qualified tutors from our UK ITEC registered College will also accompany the group to ensure that the training fully meets UK standards throughout.
Accomodation is in small 1 or 2 bedroom apartments close to both the beach front and the training centre. Accomodation is on a shared basis although sole occupancy is available at an additional charge of £95 per week. Ensuite fcilites are included and ceiling fans and / or air conditioning will be provided. We personally select the accomodation to ensure it is clean and in good condition although it should be pointed out in advance that Goan tourist accommodation is largely deemed as basic in comparison with standards at home. We can obtain a quotation for an upgrade to 4 star hotel accommodation a little further away on request. Laundry services are available locally at minimal cost and bikes and mopeds are available for hire by the more adventurous among you!

Cost: Standard two week tour price £1,649. £100 deposit to secure your place. The balance is then due 10 weeks before departure.
This cost includes:
- All accommodation as described above
- Transfers to and from Dabolim Airport
- All training, including full course notes and assessment in India
Not included:
- Return flights to and from UK although we will recommend the best value agents to you. Expect to pay around £400 - 450 if you book well in advance.
- Meals and drinks
- Travel insurance
- Sightseeing (although we can arrange this for you at very reasonable rates)
- Tips.
Those students who wish to extend their stay by a further week in order to simply relax and enjoy this paradise may do so and full arrangements can be made on your behalf - please just ask!
